Changes at Mattel after Barbie protest

Toy maker Mattel announced it will stop using wood products from a Singapore company accused of cutting down rain forests in Indonesia.

The company made the decision just three days after the environmental group Greenpeace staged a protest at Mattel's headquarters in El Segundo.

Protesters rappelled down the building on Tuesday and hung a 2,500-square-foot sign showing an angry Ken that read "Barbie, it's over. I don't date girls that are into deforestation."

Mattel has told its packaging suppliers to stop using products from Asia Pulp & Paper while it investigates the matter.

Asia Pulp told the L.A. Times that it does not clear-cut rain forests and that its packaging is mostly from recycled sources.
