LOS ANGELES -- In conjunction with a planned 53-hour weekend closure of the San Diego (405) Freeway, the Getty Center will close its doors for two days in July.
With access to the famed museum essentially eliminated due to the freeway closure, the Getty Center will be closed to visitors and most staff during the weekend of July 16-17, museum officials said.
The museum will be open as usual on Friday, July 15, and it will reopen on Tuesday, July 19. The Getty Center is closed on Mondays.
The 405 Freeway will be closed July 16-17 between the Ventura (101) and Santa Monica (10) freeways. Crews will begin demolishing the Mulholland Bridge as part of a project to improve the 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials are urging motorists to avoid the area, since traffic is expected to be snarled for much of the weekend.
