Restaurant of 'Survivor' producer slain wife in jeopardy

LOS ANGELES -- The landlord for the restaurant once owned by the slain wife of former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman obtained a judgment for unpaid rent and plans to take possession of the premises later this week, an attorney for the family told a judge today.

The landlord's action concerning the Zabumba Bar & Restaurant has thwarted for now an attempt by Monica Beresford-Redman's sister, Carla Van Bastelaar. to buy the financially struggling restaurant at 10717 Venice Blvd.

However, Van Bastelaar's lawyer, Richard Petty, said his client has not given up hope of leasing the restaurant again after the landlord takes possession.

Van Bastelaar had proposed to buy the Zabumba eatery from the estate for $1. She said last month that it needs significant improvements and she was willing to invest her own money. She said she and her parents have kept it afloat so far, but Bruce Beresford-Redman is no longer contributing funds as he did before his wife died.
