what is the fee for I-131 is it $305 or $385? do I need to pay for the biometric fee? I already have my FP done when I applied for I-485. I sent my I-485 before the fee increase so I have to pay each time I renew EAD or apply for Travel document. Please advise. Thanks

A# is either someting that you get by the following ways:
1. If you were a student and were on OPT the EAD card had an A#
2. Sometimes when your I-140 is approved it comes with A# (NOT ALWAYS NO ONE KNOWS WHY/WHY NOT)
3. When your I-485 is accepted most likely you will get a new A#
So if you have 1 or 2 use it else leave it blank.
That's your alien number and it's given to you when your I140 is approved. See my post above.

After 180 days of filing (around Nov 2004) I left my sponsoring company and joined another company with similar Job responsibility (to avail AC21), But didn't get my H1b transferred to new company. My new job require Master degree and 5 years of experience. I have acquired my master degree before joining my new company. I got married recently and Ofcourse I can't file for my wife's i 485 since I am from India and visa numbers are not available.
Can I get my H1Bvisa transferred to new employer if he is willing to sponsor?
Can I file another i 485 under EB2 as my new job requires Master degree?

My 485 app was received on July 18 at NSC, no checks cashed yet. EAD/ AP recieved on Aug 10 at NSC, got RN for EAD and AP. Is there a possibility of getting EAD card, even if 485 was not filed? One of my freinds was under the same situation, and she and her spouse got the EAD from TSC, without 485 filing.
As far as I know, it should not happen. This is bizzare...May be it was a mistake in ur friend's case...

The 800K pending 485s include people who have filed multiple 485s.
Cases like
1) Spouses filing thier own as well as dependant.
2) More then one primary filing.
So i guess there are about 100K duplicate and invalid applications.
In a way our community contributes to our own downfall...
Processing will also be delayed by people filing unnecessary Service requests for FP & AP etc., even when there is no use in near term just to be on par with everyone else.

Dude I agree that we need Visa recapture but and additional 50K visas a year for EB will go a long way as well....
In current situation any increase in EB visas will help...

The Hritik Roshan, Govinda and Daniel Craig (James Bond) images in the user profile section of each post in forum threads are quite distracting. What's the point of this feature, anyways?
I would like to put a face to every alias I come across, but not Hritik's, Govinda's or Daniel Craig's even if the resemblance with you is shocking! :)
Just removed the small image I had in my signature as well.

I am not sure about others, but since IV changed the look of this webpage, something is discouraging me from being as active as i was before. I gave myself sometime to adjust but that does not seem to happen.
Admins, please do some stats on hits, number of posts by users etc and see how the new look impacted the site activity?
Two points that I am not a fan of:
1) The front page top 10 forum items still need to be improved. We need complete text display (wrapped if long), the tooltip is not working. I do not want to mouse over every thread to read it completely.
2) User images (i know i have one myself) are making the webpage cluttered and distracting from the real content.

Most recruiters / HR folks know nothing about AC21 etc. (Most when they hear green card, say per company policy, they will start haver 1 yr!).
Should one ever bother about confusing the new employer about AC21? (Assume that Job titiles and descriptions are practically the same. Nothing drastically different. And taking the new job on H1b transfer. i.e. not on EAD).
(PS: I am not taking from the context of desi consulting firms where it might be easier to get any letter with exact same job description etc.).
I would just check if HR would be willing to provide a letter addressed to USCIS on their letterhead stating about new job title and job duties. Even if you send the letter right after joining or when you (might) get a RFE.

Well, when you applied in the past the whole world was not current.. just imagine the number of people who will be applying for EAD's not that any one with an approved labor can get one ... do you think the USCIC is equipped to respond timely to every one?
There sure will delays and we need to plan for that.
I dont know exactly what is the issue here, but I have filed for EAD extentions 3 times in last three years and it was a very straight forward and easy process. We filed the extentions about 2 months before the expiration and got EADs and APs done in about a month.

Set up your own company LLC. and ask them to sign corp-corp or 1099 and you be the sole owner of this company.
This way even if you dont get full time offer you can defend self employment.
W2 Contract can be a problem because of USCIS's perception of permanent job.
