First Lady Michelle Obama joins husband President Barack Obama, French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and French President Nicolas Sarkozy at the Caen Prefecture on Saturday (June 6) in Caen, France. The two couples attended the commemorations marking the 65th anniversary of the June 6, 1944 allied landings in Normandy, northwestern France.
“As we face down the hardships and struggles of our time and arrive at that hour for which we were born,” Mr. Obama said during a solemn tribute. “We cannot help but draw strength from those moments in history when the best among us were somehow able to swallow their fears and secure a beachhead on an unforgiving shore.”
