TOP 5 COMFORT FOOD THAT FIGHT FAT

Macaroni and CheeseYes, we can still indulge in this cheesy delight. Use low-fat milk instead of whole milk. Reduce the amount of butter or cut it out completely. Substitute cornstarch for flour and cut back on the amount of cheese. You’ll still get all the taste, but with fewer calories.

New York CheesecakeThis delicious dessert can be made in a reduced fat version without sacrificing flavor. Just use nonfat cream cheese and nonfat sour cream in place of the full-strength ingredients. Voila, you have a low-fat comfort dessert! Here's exactly how to do it, from

Dark ChocolateThis ranks high on just about everybody’s list of comfort foods, and it can help you fight fat. According to research from the University of Copenhagen, compounds in chocolate slow down digestion and make you feel full longer. A small piece of chocolate, about the size of a business card, can help you eat less at your next meal. It can also curb your cravings for salty, sweet and fatty foods. For maximum benefit, pick chocolate with a cacao content of 65 percent or more.

OatmealA great way to start the day with one of the best comfort foods that is also so very good for you. Buy sugar-free oatmeal, sweeten it with stevia and add a small amount of raisins or other dried fruit. Top with some cinnamon and you have a delicious, filling, low fat bowl of comfort.

PastaSophia Loren purportedly claimed “everything you see, I owe to spaghetti.” Whether or not she did say that, the fact remains she still has a sensational figure and, being brought up in Italy, she probably did eat a lot of pasta! Analysis by the American Institute of Baking shows that pasta is rich in six minerals, including manganese, iron, phosphorus, copper, magnesium and zinc. Whole grain pasta is even healthier. Instead of a rich, thick, calorie-laden sauce, blend whole tomatoes, garlic, onion and basil, with a chicken stock cube

EARTH DAY: PLACES TO GO BEFORE THEY DISAPPEAR

Kauai, Hawaii

spain

We all know that climate change melts glaciers and shifts sea levels. But have you ever thought about how rising temperatures can threaten beautiful places in every corner of the world? Some of these spots may be closer to home than you think.
For Earth Day, Yahoo! News interviewed Gaute Hogh, publisher of the book 100 Places to Go Before They Disappear (distributed by Abrams in the U.S.). Hogh was inspired to produce the book after witnessing the effects of global warming in his native Denmark. He wanted to show how natural beauty around the globe could be forever altered by climate change.

April 23, 2011
Day 8 - Sugar rush! TheInsider.com's Nicole Dabeau got her fix at the Tate & Lyle Sugars' "Let Them Eat Cake" first ever edible royal wedding cake exhibition where world-class chefs replicated the historic towers of sweetness dating back to the Henry VII, which had black birds flying out of it.
Check out the video to see the unconventional traditions of the past and it does involve a bit of cake throwing.
As for the royal couple, Professor Roland Rotherham told Nicole that Prince William andKate Middleton will have several cakes, including a traditional fruit cake and a dark chocolate cake filled with rich tea biscuits, known as digestives in the UK. There will also be a private wedding cake for the royal couple.

Though she has since then moved in from the brand Gisele still looms as the highest earning model on the planet at an estimated $33 million for 2006 and remains one of the only two models who actually can move mags on the newsstands.

WORLD'S TERRIFIED FLOOD

The World’s Worst Floods

Throughout history, floods have proven to be the deadliest natural disasters. This is mainly due to the high population densities around rivers. When well-behaved, rivers provide the resources needed for agriculture, transportation, and industry. It is no accident that all of the ancient civilizations rose around rivers.

It also should be noted that not all of the dead were the victims of the initial floodwaters. Disease and famine that followed the disasters probably killed more than the floodwaters themselves.

Flooding disasters primarily as a result of typhoons or hurricanes have been excluded from this list and are instead included on the list of worst hurricane disasters.

1. Huang He (Yellow) River, China 1931

Death Toll: 1,000,000 to 3,700,000

The Huang He River is prone to flooding because of the broad expanse of plain that lies around it. One of the major reasons for the flooding is the high silt content that gives the river its yellow tint (and thus its name). The silt—which constitutes as much as 60% of its volume—builds up until the river actually is higher than the surrounding land. The tendency to flood is exacerbated by ice dams which block the river in Mongolia; the dams back up the water, and then release devastating walls of water when they break.

The history of flooding has prompted the Communist Chinese government to embark on a program of building dams for flood control. The dams, however, have not proven entirely effective and have been the target of criticism from environmentalists.

2.  Huang He (Yellow) River, China 1887

Death Toll: 900,000 to 2,000,000

3. Huang He (Yellow) River, China 1938

Death Toll: 500,000 - 900,000

The 1938 flood of the Huang He was caused by Nationalist Chinese troops under Chiang Kai-Shek when they broke the levees in an attempt to turn back advancing Japanese troops. The strategy was partly successful. By 1940, the Japanese were essentially in a stalemate with Chinese forces.

4. Huang He (Yellow) River, China 1642

Death Toll: 300,000

Chinese rebels destroy the dikes along the city of Kaifeng, flooding the surrounding countryside.

5. Ru River, Banqiao Dam, China 1975

Death Toll: 230,000

This flood was caused by the collapse of the Banquia Dam, along with several others, following a heavy rain caused by a typhoon. It is the worst dam related collapse in history.

6. Yangtze River, China 1931

Death Toll: 145,000

Although the Huang He has caused more deaths, the Yangtze has had more than 1,000 recorded floods.

7. The Netherlands and England 1099

Death Toll: 100,000

A combination of high tides and storms flooded the Thames and the Netherlands, killing 100,000.

8. The Netherlands 1287

Death Toll: 50,000

A seawall on the Zuider Zee failed, flooding the low-lying polder.

9. The Neva River, Russia 1824

Death Toll: 10,000

An ice dam clogged the Neva, flooding nearby cities.

10. The Netherlands 1421

Death Toll: 10,000

The failure of a seawall on the Zuider Zee flooded the Dutch lowlands.

7 crazy sandwiches and burgers

Everyone loves a sandwich and burgers — melty, stretchy, sharp Cheddar on buttery, toasty sourdough bread when it’s cold outside, or how about a porky, sweet, creamy and vegetable-filled BLT at the diner?

C’mon, your mouth is watering.

But these sandwiches, while delicious, are also all kind of ... well ... ordinary. Where is the ingenuity? Where is the shock-and-awe?

KFC upped the ante with the Double Down, and the guys from Epic Meal Time went off the charts with a 300,000-calorie sandwich for the Super Bowl.

The following creations take the art of breaded bliss to a whole new level — and calorie count — and are available for those intrepid (or hungry) enough to try.

Blondie and Brownie
The Mo'Betta from Shopsins, New York CityNothing beats a steaming stack of buttermilk hotcakes for breakfast, with creamy butter and sweet maple syrup streaming down the sides. How about adding some mac and cheese to the batter for a few hits of tangy cheese as you enjoy your sweet carbs?  And protein really is important, so let's just throw a couple of scrambled eggs and some maple bacon in between those cakes. That, my friends, is the Mo’Betta at Shopsins in New York City. This is a popular sandwich for a hearty breakfast or lunch: a sweet, salty, carb-loaded, porky, mac-and-cheesy creation that will either have you begging for more or begging for mercy.

The Minty

The GLT from The Gorbals, Los AngelesThe classic BLT includes smoky bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes with a luxurious coating of mayonnaise. This baby is pretty much perfect as is.

Or is it?

Enter The Gorbals' GLT — a gribenes, lettuce and tomato sandwich.

Gribenes is chicken skin, rendered and fried until it is a crispy, crunchy layer of savory chicken flavor with a thin undercoating of smooth, velvety fat.

Bacon is really delicious, but, is there really anything better than chicken skin? The Gorbals tells us that the sandwich is extremely popular. When Chef Ilan Hall was asked why he put the sandwich on the menu, the grandson of a butcher said, "I don't know, it just made sense!"

Plus, now the dish is kosher.

Insanewiches
Quadzilla at Nathan’s Real Barbecue, Safford, Ariz.Someone's first cheeseburger is a pleasure. Their first bacon cheeseburger is a revelation. Their first Quadzilla , on the other hand, is a frightening behemoth to be reckoned with. Consisting of “a quarter-pound rib sandwich on top, four third-pound burger patties, eight strips of thick bacon, four slices of extra thick Pepper Jack cheese, pickles, onions and a TON of barbecue sauce," this baby is meaty, she is big and she means business. Only one person has ever attempted to eat it , and he was sadly defeated by the meaty monstrosity. You can try your own luck with the burger any Friday or Saturday night! This is quite possibly the most gluttonous burger in America, unless you consider ...

This is Why You're Huge
The Big Fat Ugly Sandwich from the Fat Sandwich Company, Madison, Wis., and Champaign, Ill.Cheeseburgers, gyros, mozzarella sticks, those awesome mini-bagel bites that all the TV moms buy but my mom never did — you might think I am just randomly naming great drunk food, but you would be only partially right.

I am also naming the components of Fat Sandwich Company's Big Fat Ugly Sandwich.

It might be big. It might be fat. But to whoever might DARE to call this ugly, I can only say ...

Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

What can be ugly about combining all these guilty pleasures into one sandwich? It consists of:

Two rolls, four cheeseburgers, double cheesesteak, chicken cheesesteak, gyro meat, grilled chicken, bacon, sausage, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, chicken nuggets, mac ‘n’ cheese bites, fried mushrooms, jalapeno poppers, pizza bites, onion rings, hash browns, American cheese, mayo, ketchup and french fries.

And it is — by my calculations — well over 7,000 calories. And, perhaps, well worth it.

Adsum
The Tastykake Slider from Adsum, Philadelphia, Pa.Everyone loves chocolate. Everyone loves a burger. But who would be crazy enough to put them together?

Philadelphia chef Matt Levin pays homage to these chocolate-and-peanut butter Philly snack cakes by actually making them the buns for his sweet and sour mini-burgers. The sammie is comprised of two house-ground brisket patties topped with sour cherry-sriracha jam and American cheese, each sandwiched between two Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. Apparently, the sour/spicy aspects of the burger balance the sweet nuttiness of the Tastykake. Levin actually started the burger when he found out that Tastykake was having financial difficulties, and put the slider on the menu to raise awareness about the company's woes. But the burger has developed a little following, and Levin says that it is "pretty popular," due to the local and national press, with the restaurant selling 10 to 20 burgers a night.

Uyen D.
The Kryptonite from Ike's Place, San Francisco What these guys call kryptonite, an average bear eating his last meal before winter hibernating for dinner might call dinner.

For most of us, though ... it would definitely be our kryptonite: Roast beef, corned beef, pastrami, salami, turkey, bacon, ham, mozzarella sticks, stuffed jalapeno poppers, beer-battered onion rings, avocado, pesto and pepper jack cheese.

This meaty sandwich attracts hundreds of followers a year, including Adam Richman of “Man vs. Food,” and clocking in at more than 5,700 calories, this might be the only thing you need to eat for the whole year!

Carnegie Deli
The Melo, Carnegie Deli, New York CityWho says New Yorkers aren’t welcoming? Carnegie Deli pays homage to the newest Knicks addition, Carmelo Anthony, with the towering meat orgy aptly named The Melo. The $22 sandwich (seems like an understatement to call it that) features pastrami, corned beef, salami, bacon, lettuce, tomato and Russian dressing, all on several slices of rye.
