Brandon Routh Wins Best Actor for Superman Returns at the Saturn Awards!
Superstar Brandon Routh was the recipient of the Best Actor Award at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films at the Saturn Awards 35th anniversary this year. He was recognized for his role as Superman in 2006 mega-hit Superman Returns. In 2006, this Academy awarded him with a win for Best Male Newcomer. His blockbuster movie led the 2007 ceremony as the biggest winners with five awards in film which included IMTA alum Brandon for Best Actor, for Best Direction Bryan Singer, forbBest Writing Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, and for Best Music John Ottman. Brandon also received an Empire Award in 2007 in the U.K. for Best Male Newcomer for Superman Returns.
Brandon competed at IMTA in 1999 in New York City. Brandon was a favorite with the agents, managers and casting directors and ended up moving to Los Angeles. Routh was chosen for the role of Superman following an exhaustive search that spanned the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Thousands of candidates were interviewed before the final selection was made. Prior to his worldwide starring role as the Man of Steel, Routh was best known for his soap work, including roles on One Life to Live and the MTV nighttime soap, Undressed. He's also had guest-starring roles on Cold Case, Will & Grace, and Gilmore Girls. Brandon recently wrapped the dramatic film, Life is Hot in Cracktown which tells various stories of how drugs have infiltrated the inner-city streets.
