Google Adds Voice, Video to GMail

Now, when you're chatting with someone via GMail, you'll actually be able to chat. Google has added voice and video capabilities to its Web-based email service. All it takes is downloading a plug-in and clicking the "video and more" menu in a GMail chat window. You will then have the option of starting a voice or video conversation. Once the video chat has started, you can resize the window up to a full-screen view with a single click.

Iotum Upgrades Calliflower Conferencing
Iotum Inc.'s Calliflower Web-based conference calling service,
previously covered by VoIP-News, is now accessible from iPhones. It's also available in a premium version that allows participants to share documents. Downloading the iPhone application will be free until January 1, 2009, after which it will cost a one-time fee of $9.95. The premium service will cost $50 per month for two conference organizers, with additional organizers costing $25 per month each. In addition, Calliflower is now accessible through Voxbone SA's newly announced 883 "iNum" international VoIP phone numbers.
Snom Brings New 820 Business IP Phone to U.S.
Snom Technology AG introduced its
new 820 model business IP telephone to the U.S. at the VoiceCon San Francisco show this week. The 820 features a 3.5-inch color display and enough processing power to support video streaming. It includes PoE (Power over Ethernet) capability so that it will work without a separate power supply. It also has a trough on the back containing a USB port. Plugging a wifi dongle into the port makes it possible to use the phone in voice-over-wifi mode where there's no wired Ethernet connection. The 820 supports five-party conferencing and has a built-in XML browser.
Polycom Boosts Video Conferencing Capabilities
Also at VoiceCon this week, Polycom Inc.
announced the availability of its CMA (Convergence Management Application) video network management product. The application provides centralized control of visual communications systems throughout an enterprise. It also comes with CMA Desktop, which allows individual users to set up video conferences on their own based on contact lists and presence information.
